Fayaway Is Fantastic

(A shameless plug for selling our beloved boat; not any more).

Looking back from the stern, hundreds of miles offshore.

No matter how wonderful she is we have reasons for wanting a different boat. Mostly because we’re changing our lifestyle – again, and definitely not to be away from the water.

When we are near water, our brains enter a semi-meditative state known as drifting. Drifting is a special form of attention where we are engaged with the world around us but not focused on getting something done.
– Wallace J. Nichols

Here are a few of our reasons to love Fayaway, in no order of priority:

  • Let’s just say it right away: the only reason we want to sell her. More space. 7 feet more for living aboard feels like double the space to live, work and store things. For many, Fayaway, at about 42 feet, is that extra footage, and then some. But we simply want something bigger. So, this can’t be a negative.
  • Safety. No chance we desire any change here. Fayaway is a rock solid winner in this department. Arguably the most solid boat I’ve ever been on. She doesn’t creeak when under heavy seas and winds, or when trouncing across the deck.
  • The rig is heavy and built to last. Again nothing to be desired in this category. (We replaced all the standing and running rigging anyway, just to be sure!)
  • Deck design: As mentioned above, these decks don’t flex and are designed with raised locations for chainplates and other hardware penetrating the surface. This prevents standing water around possible entry points, if ever there becomes any concern for deck penetration.
  • Sailing quality and flexibility. She points well and easily holds course. Two headsail furlers, for genoa and staysail provide easy setup for diverse weather conditions. Again, a winner here too. She’s quite easy and forgiving to sail.
  • She’s heavier than a race boat but once she gets going she comfortably cuts through the waves, making for a fun and enjoyable passage. She also rides well at anchor.
  • Canoe stern rises with following seas, making for less autopilot work.
  • Redundant anchoring. We have provisions for two heavy anchors on the solid bow sprit. A split chain locker more than allows for more than 300 feet of chain and another 250 feet of heavy rope rode.
  • Bigger bunks. A comfortable queen sized bed fits into the bow, along with steps and cubbies on both sides. Ok, again she’s comfortable for two and perhaps a couple, and two crew for passages. We’ve had guests more than a few times. Again we just want something bigger.
  • A completely enclosed prop is well protected by a massive skeg. A++ rating here. We’ve never been able to snag a lobster pot, even after several summers cruising in Maine.
  • The hull design combines low-draft, full-keel durability while its cutaway between keel and skeg offers fin-keel maneuverability. Also her forefoot is sloped such that she cuts better through the water and never pounds. This is a big plus for offshore comfort. After several thousand offshore miles, I don’t see any noticeable difference between the deep-keel version with regard to sailing performance. A++ all the way!
  • Deep double sinks and a well-functioning cook-stove make every day cooking and cleanup feel like home. Kelly gives this a thumbs up!
  • High freeboard. She keeps us dryer in breaking waves and when going to windward. Love it!

The sea
isn’t a place
but a fact, and
a mystery

Offshore near the Exumas we had an awesome downwind run with our easy-to-use (and very colorful) asymmetrical.

We started with a fantastic base of Pacific Seacraft quality, and simply kept adding! Here are just a few of the many new amenities:

  • New diesel engine, power train and electrical systems to ensure ample power for comfortable living. Plug all your favorite gadgets in; we have no shortage of power. Especially when the sun is shining 🙂
  • Our award-winning (Gemini Canvas) canvas shields occupants completely from foul weather while sailing. We purposefully made the dodger overhang further and provide more companionway protection. The removable full cockpit enclosure makes those chilly passages much more comfortable. High quality strata glass gives us a warm and wonderful sunroom and the bimini offers rain protection at anchor. We are out there all the time!
  • Built-in flush-mount video and quality marine sound systems provide home entertainment from various sources. Everything is connected. One can stream a movie via Starlink or see the present course in real time on the big screen!
  • An efficient diesel hydronic heating system warms the interior quickly without bulkier ductwork.
  • All lighting inside and outside is energy-pinching LED. We usually leave the lights on when away, making it easy to find our way upon returning.
  • Spectra watermaker lets you be independent in the islands. It’s solar powered!
  • Recently upgraded sails, using higher-quality design and materials.
  • State of the art navigation, radar and remote power monitoring instruments complete the array.
Anchoring in far-flung places becomes addictive.

We can’t begin to explain the fantastic adventures we’ve had with Fayaway. Thousands of nautical miles between Canada and the eastern Caribbean. Hundreds of anchorages and meeting hundreds of wonderful people. (Ok, but only a few marinas too.)

Ok, so let’s repeat: why are we selling this well-maintained, completely upgraded, fully-equipped, (as in needs nothing) ocean-cruising vessel? What else could you possibly want in a sailboat that Fayaway doesn’t already have?

Our desires continue to evolve. As already plainly stated, we just want more room, for occupants and stuff. (Ok, Plus we can use the cash to pay for another one.)

  • We want a bigger boat to accommodate more guests and junk.

This luxury cruiser can be yours! It’s a buyer’s market so snag this trans-ocean beauty before she’s gone. Time to live your dreams!

    1. Hi Nica!

She’s had several people looking. We figured that someone would want to hop on for the winter and get away! But not yet. That’s ok, we’re patient. Payment on the new one isn’t until spring. We’re just saving up for now. Someone’s probably going to wait for a good deal eventually!

    Hi Captnchris

I see you came down with “five foot fever” 😂 I remember I had the same thing happen to me during my sailing days.

I’ll look forward to seeing your next purchase.
