Canadian Stepping Stone

Ok folks. Are you sitting down?

“We have to continually be jumping off cliffs and developing our wings on the way down.”
— Kurt Vonnegut

Sailor Kelly and I are taking a year off from living on the water and heading north to friendly Ontario, Canada, to embark on a different adventure – this time via land and air.

“A boat is simply a vehicle to carry us through a part of life’s journey. Fayaway is a great vehicle, but not the right one for this next passage you’re embarking upon. On to the next. New adventures about to ensue, and with them, new vehicles to carry you there.” – J.Carmichael.

Nothing to do with politics I assure you. Even though jumping ship would seem appropriate now given that our dear democracy is apparently being dismantled by an unchecked megalomaniac and his wrecking ball oligarchy. Regardless, I’ll state clearly again, that… our relocation has actually little to do with politics.

We’ve been living aboard for much of six years, and have had a wonderful time of it. I can’t possibly express how fantastic and enjoyable our lives have been during this brief time.

“There are some days when I think I’m going to die from an overdose of satisfaction.” ― Salvador Dalí

Countless new and many lasting friends have been made throughout this journey, some kindred spirits, and their generosity and kindness goes fathoms beyond our ability to appropriately express gratitude and appreciation. We can only hope that constructive moments of our minuscule lives have in-turn rubbed off onto others.

Of course, we must acknowledge cherished pre-existing friends and family, along with their patient appreciation of our passion to pursue adventure. During stints ashore, we’ve slept in countless comfortable (and sometimes not so) beds. Auto rental and hotel chains are certainly profiting from our frequent excursions!

We’ve visited unheard-of islands (such as Saba – actually twice, because Saba’s a true gem!) And survived minor meltdowns and weathered a few storms. All of these have enriched our lives beyond worthy explanation.

In just the last 12 months, we’ve made a grand experience of logging a measly 7,000 nautical miles aboard our dear Fayaway, spanning the pristine and friendly Cape Breton Island, down to the remote southern Bahamian Ragged islands. A majority of small-footprint miles have been provided Au gratis from our wind. Let’s not kid ourselves – we’re deeply into the 21st century, so electricity for amenities of satellite weather forecasts, telephone and boiling water for coffee is nearly always provided by our dependable sun.

What’s next? (We’re really excited about the next chapter!)

Please don’t gasp too much. We always aspiring and looking ahead for our next adventures. To do so, steps must be taken, which involve a change of boat and scenery. Sorry to leave you hanging here. More to come later!

Fayaway recently hauled, cleaned and waxed April 2025.

A few pics – places, moments and friends from the past year… click to enlarge.

Our lovely Fayaway has just been thoroughly cleaned out and prepared for very lucky new owners to easily settle aboard and escape to distant places. While any boat has unique quirks, Fayaway is well-found. She and her dedicated companion Korykory are well-maintained and in very good shape for a new owner. Having prior been sitting shrink-wrapped on the hard for half her life; cosmetics don’t show her age. She’s essentially updated and completely equipped with all most desirable cruising goodies and tidbits conceivable!

Act quickly, as her full listing has just been posted on yazuyachting.com. Located in Deltaville, Virginia. Also Yachtworld.com and Yachtr.com.

We overlook Fayaway, anchored just off own beautiful beach in the Ragged Islands, Bahamas. This beach is yours too – you just need to sail here!
