More Wanderlust?

What’s wrong with me? Seriously, what drives this incessant thirst for dropping the hook in unfamiliar coves and then paddling over to introduce ourselves to strangers? (Kelly cringes every time I do this! Stranger Danger!) Nah, I say, overwhelmed with curiosity and thirst for discovering new people, places and things.

Like a pilgrimage, we plod along with trade winds, seasonal movement east to west, North to South. Well, ok, sometimes tacking upwind too!

Picture yourself standing on the deck of a sailboat, the wind in your hair and the salt spray on your skin. As the sails billow in the breeze, you feel a sense of freedom unlike anything else. This is the allure of wanderlust on the open sea—a desire to explore the world’s oceans, one wave at a time.

We are a lucky few, albeit perhaps at least hundreds of us free folk who independently harness the wind, for travel along our blue planet’s watery surface in a small vessel called home. Yes, sometimes we do supplement with a wee bit of internal combustion. On a path to what end? Believers of what? I’m not really sure! I don’t know why we do it, or at least why I do it. Others have a different story. Perhaps we’re only seeking to live a peaceful existence amongst friends, collecting many more as we go, perhaps to be away from a chaos, and prove that some of our planet hasn’t yet been corrupted and pillaged.

Maybe a few who focus on frequent social media postings want notoriety, so to pronounce they’re “doing it”. That’s not me; you know I’m not comfortable in the spotlight. Not us. These posts have always been to capture our moments for family and friends, and to offer our experiences to help others just starting out.

So why this incessant urge for wandering and collecting like-minded friends?

I get a thrill, a high one might say, not consciously, but later realized after being there, of arriving and dropping anchor in an unvisited cove. Rarely, if ever, unexplored by true adventurers before, but certainly for us two aboard Fayaway.

Some folks love to get off the boat only to share experiences aboard another vessel!

Traveling this way we are frequently caught in a state of challenges, uncertainty, but rarely pure fear. Questions abound: Will the cove be protected from the swells? When we get where we’re heading will there be room to anchor safely and protected enough from the approaching cold front?

Final thoughts:

Wanderlust Unleashed: cruising provides the perfect outlet for wanderlust, allowing adventurers to explore far-flung destinations that are inaccessible by land. Whether it’s anchoring in secluded coves, snorkeling among vibrant coral reefs, or mingling with locals in quaint fishing villages, every port of call offers a new opportunity for discovery.

The Joy of Slow Travel: In a world obsessed with speed and efficiency, sailing offers a refreshing change of pace. It’s about embracing the journey as much as the destination, savoring each moment as you navigate the world’s oceans at your own pace. It’s a reminder to slow down, to appreciate the beauty of the world around us, and to savor the simple pleasures of life.

I don’t have much to say. Your sailing life is clearly a pleasure no one not sharing can comprehend.
I do say good for you! Squeeze out every bit of pleasure! Believe me, you don’t want to be part of what’s going on!

  2. First of all, that second photo is spectacular. Also, I, too, post my (usually) land travels to remind myself what we’ve seen and done and if someone takes inspiration or learns a little bit about the world, well then, writing was worth it. You guys certainly inspire me. Amazing that Kelly has time for WWF with me. I often think of her lounging on the boat or a beach but still taking the time to play with me. Sail on!
