Louse Harbour and Seal Cove

Seal Cove is an inner reach, reaching deeply into Louse Harbour, where the charted depths don’t exist, none showing often means that there isn’t any depth to the water. But not always. Our new OCC friends Bill and Chris, of sv Plover, had been to this secret place before, and know better.

Our passage up the coast… Louse Harbour- top right.
Blue dot marks our spot.

Wow, it’s as though we had been transported back to The Land of the Lost. All the beauty but without Chaka, all the drama and ravenous Sleestaks.

1974 television series.

As Fayaway slowly creeped along, zigging and zagging around obvious shallow rocks, into the narrow pass, a crisp and clean aroma of fir trees filled our nostrils. Maybe a slight hint of the ocean, but a very clean smelling variation of what’s expected around any more populated area.

We are in the lap of nature here in a remote shoreline of Nova Scotia, spending two glorious evenings in pristine environs, drying out with the warm sun by day. Still a bit chilly in the morning, but it’s warming up to being more like summer.

Fayaway anchored, nearby our “Buddy boat” OCC friends aboard the ketch Plover.

On the second morning , we had been out exploring by dinghy and walking a nearby beach. Yes, there are signs that others have been here, but you need to look closely, as sparse remnants of aged fishing buoys and line might be seen. After shoving off a fine gravel beach, we motored a different course, past a small house, where a man walked out as we exchanged “hello” waves. We made a failed attempt to find wild mussels, but enjoyed everything beautiful of the surroundings.

Later that afternoon , two men came by (same ones who waved) offering a bucket of fresh lobsters – refusing to accept any payment. He said it’s always nice to meet the visitors.

Our friends Chris, Flaco and Bill out exploring a nearby island rocky beach.
Flaco likes Kelly more than me 😉

Tomorrow we pull anchor and head out into the foggy outer bay, passing via the town of Canso, en route north for arrival to Cape Breton Island! Woo Hoo!

We hope you’re enjoying your summer!
